THE CONTACT LENS DEPARTMENT AT ROG
The contact lens department at ROG began over 40 years by Dr. Ellis Gruber. Because of his interest in contact lenses ROG was the first Ophthalmological practice in western New York State to incorporate contact lenses as a service to it’s patients. Dr. Gruber, retired in 1997, but his legacy remains.

Rosemary DeLuca, a NYS licensed optician, is nationally certified as a contact lens fitter and is also certified as a ophthalmic technician, has managed the Contact Lens Department for well over 20 years. Along with Dr. Gruber, they conducted seminars, wrote nationally published articles and consulted for major contact lens manufacturers.
Carl Conklin, Jr., a NYS licensed optician and Certified Contact Lens Practitioner, manages our optical department Designs in Eyewear. He also fits contact lenses in both of our locations. As members of the Contact Lens Society of America, Rosemary and Carl are experienced fitters in the state of the art techniques and the newest of contact lenses.

Contact lenses are medical devices and are classified by the FDA as a drug.
We at ROG, take great pride in giving our patients the best care possible. Our main goal is to take care of the health of your eyes and the preservation of your vision.

TINTED LENSES:

Tinted lenses have improved through the years. There are more colors and options available now than ever before. Opaque tints are for dark eyes and enhancer tints are for lighter eyes. Ciba and Acuvue are the top manufacturers
of tinted lenses.

Manufacturers such as Adventures In Color or the Narcissus Foundation, fabricate and tint lenses for ocular problems and abnormalities.

BIFOCALS:

As we get older, our eyes loose the ability to change focus from distant objects to near ones, and we find ourselves needing bifocals.

Bifocal contact lenses are available by several manufacturers, in softlens designs as well as gas permeable rigid lens designs. The percentage of success with bifocal lenses is increasing with time. Not everyone is a good candidate for bifocal contact lenses. This is easily determined at an eye examination.

ASTIGMATISM:

In astigmatism, the front surface of the eye has an irregular shape similar to an egg, versus a non-astigmatic eye, which is shaped like an orange.
This surface irregularity causes a point of light entering the eye to bend unevenly forming a distorted image rather than one single point on the retina.
Toric soft lenses are specially designed for people with astigmatism, and are made in several designs my many manufacturers. People with unusual amounts of astigmatism need toric lenses that are custom made.
Astigmatism, can also be corrected with rigid gas permeable lenses. The rigidity of the lens forms a new surface on the cornea and corrects the distortion.

SILICONE HYDROGELS:

It’s a new generation of soft lens material that is approved for extended wear. This material is so oxygen permeable that it is like wearing nothing on the eye at all. It is worn by many patients all of their waking hours, and some patients deem it as a alternative to refractive surgery, and wear it extended wear.

At this time, Cibavision, it the only manufacturer, that has FDA approval on this type of material with their Night and Day lens.

DISPOSBABLE LENSES:

More than 95% of all soft lens wearers are using disposable lenses as a lens of choice. If used correctly, the benefits of disposables are endless.

Disposable lenses are marketed as One Day disposable, Two Week disposables, or Monthly disposables. A Quarterly disposable is considered a planned replacement modality , which is a totally different category.

Disposable lenses are available in all types of lenses to meet the refractive needs of almost all patients

CORNEAL REFRACTIVE THERAPY:

The latest technology in correcting myopia without invasive surgery is called Corneal Refractive Surgery. This is accomplished by specially designed contact lenses that flatten the cornea while you sleep. This medical treatment has been fully approved by the FDA , and is totally reversible. No serious side effects have been recorded through the clinical trials with this treatment, so it is very safe and very effective.

There are no age restrictions, which makes it a great option for the entire family. We offer free consultations, and will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about this new and exciting treatment.
